I placed my first Billie razor order almost exactly 1 year ago today, so I figured this is the perfect time to break down all the pros and cons I’ve experienced in this Billie review. We made a YouTube video to go along with this written Billie review, so if you prefer to watch instead of read, click here to watch our Billie Blade YouTube review!
Brutally Honest Billie Review
It’s high time someone came out with a good women’s shave brand, isn’t it? As Dollar Shave Club informed us, there has been a long-standing monopoly on shave products. Big-name brands have done everything they can to keep things expensive, and haven’t delivered on efficiency. Especially when it comes to women’s shave needs. I tried Dollar Shave Club, and as much as I loved the convenience, I did not like the feel of the shave at all.
Enter, Billie blade. This unsponsored Billie review is all about the good & bad that comes with using Billie Blade razors. Now, make no mistake. I love this product. I continue to take part in their subscription service, and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon. However, the internet is saturated with sponsored Billie review information. When I was shopping, I couldn’t find a single critique in any Billie review or ad. We all know that every product has pros and cons, so I’m here to spell out what enjoy and dislike about Billie blades.
Billie Razor Pros
- Smoothest shave I’ve found
- Sweet on sensitive skin
- Modern, pretty design
Billie Razor Cons
- Shape of handle causes messes
- Magnetic holder can cause issues
- No neutral color option
Let’s dive a little deeper!
Billie Review Pros
Smooth Shave
Billie razors offer the smoothest shave I’ve found, to date. This is probably largely due to a few wonderful factors.
- Five-blade design adds 1-2 more blades than many of us are used to with our store-bought razors. The extra blades allow for a closer, smoother, more effective shave.
- Charcoal shave soap surrounds the five blades, and there’s lots of it. I’m looking on their website right now, and disappointingly, I can’t find any ingredient list. (More on that below.) However, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the shave soap contains charcoal. Not sure what makes it so slippery-smooth (could it be aloe?), but it’s nice.
Cuts while shaving are rare-to-nonexistent now, and dare I say that the shave feels closer than before? I’m not sure if this is possible or not because… well… skin-deep is skin-deep. However, I love the smooth feel after using the Billie blade to shave. A+.
Sweet on Sensitive Skin
I’m one of the many “blessed” with sensitive skin. It really doesn’t like to be bothered… at all. Shaving is no exception. I used to have to fork over a bunch of extra bucks if I wanted a smooth, red-bump-free shave. (Yes, even my legs would throw a fit if I used the cheap stuff!) Honestly, Dollar Shave Club was one of the worst offenders for my skin.
Billie razors have been much friendlier to my skin than any other razor I’ve tried. Now, when watching any sponsored Billie review, I heard many women say that they experienced zero irritation. I wouldn’t go this far. I’d say there’s been an 85%-ish percent reduction in skin irritation while using Billie. Their aloe shave cream (really more of a gel) especially helped calm my skin. Full disclosure though — if I’m going to fast, I’ll still experience a little irritation.
This is the only shave system I’ve been able to get away with surviving without lotion after a shave. I don’t recommend it — it still feels better totally moisturized — however the fact that I can get away with no lotion if I’m in a rush is huge.
Modern, Pretty Design
I always appreciate good design, and I love the minimalist approach that Billie took towards razors. The design is modern, sleek, and clean. The clean design is also quite functional — the swivel head is a big bonus for a smooth shave. The magnetic holder is also sleek and minimalist. I do have a couple little qualms with the design, which I go into a bit more below.
Billie Review Cons
Shape Of Handle Causes Messes
As I demonstrated in our Billie review YouTube video, the shape of the Billie handle has a couple minor flaws that can cause big messes. Because the super-sleek design doesn’t offer a level platform on the back, the razor almost never sits with the head off the resting surface.
Because of this, the super-soapy surround to the razorblades oozes out when it gets wet, and sticks to the surface on which the Billie razor is resting. It doesn’t seem like a huge issue right off the bat, but after you’ve cleaned up the mess about 4 times every week, it gets old. It also means that the soap on the razor head doesn’t last as long as if it weren’t dripping onto the countertop.
The only real solution I’ve found thus far is to always put the razor back on the magnetic holder. This isn’t possible when I’m traveling, of course, so it’s not uncommon for it to make a mess in my travel bag.
Magnetic Holder Not Always Reliable
The magnetic holder is a great idea, as long as you can keep it working. When I first installed the magnetic holder in our shower, I put it in the most inconspicuous place possible. Unfortunately, this location also took an average amount of water from the shower, which rendered the sticky tack backing totally useless.
After a few tries and new sticky tack, I found that the magnetic holder only stays up if it’s placed at a location in the shower that doesn’t take hardly any water. It’s kind of a bummer, because now it has to sit way out in the open on our shower, and to me, is a bit of an eyesore. But obviously, putting the razor in our shower niche was not an option, as it made a huge soapy mess, like I mentioned above. It’ll do, I guess!
No Neutral Color Option
I know I’m getting a bit nit-picky here, so take it with a grain of salt. But my list criticism of the razors in this Billie review has to do with color options. Sure, the color of your razor doesn’t matter too much if you can hide it in a shower niche, vanity drawer, etc.. However, since this shave system must be displayed out in prominent locations on the wall, I would really love to see at least one, if not a few, neutral color options.
The color options on the Billie website include 4 very bright, very bold colors. Great for Billie branding, but not so great for our bathroom aesthetic. I would love to see a black, a white, a tan — anything that doesn’t scream “look at me!” in a zen bathroom. I know it’s nit-picky, but if I could do a Billie review on a matte black razor, I’d be totally in love!
Unsponsored Billie Razor Summary
All in all, I still love my Billie razor shave system. Sure, it’s not perfect, but the flaws don’t outweigh the benefits in my opinion. The most important takeaways from this Billie razor review are the smooth shave and the gentle approach to sensitive skin. As an added bonus, I find the price plenty reasonable, as well.
Have you tried the Billie system, or similar razors geared toward women? What are your favorites so far?

I love how honest your reviews are!
I agree with the lack of color options – haha I definitely don’t need a flashy razor taking away from the bathroom aesthetic we work so hard for!
I’ve been using a Harry Razor – we have a subscription, but I know you can get them from target now. I got a matte green one and Caleb got the navy one.
