Dremel Home Solutions
Dremel recently launched their new line of products under the Home Solutions category. Their previous product lines are marketed to DIYers and hobbyists and this new category helps to bring more people to the brand. This cordless electric screwdriver isn’t just for tradesmen or tradeswomen, woodworkers, or the DIYer. It is great for anyone that needs a convenient and easy way to tighten or loosen screws and bolts.
What’s Included
This electric screwdriver comes with a convenient micro-USB charging cable, a bit extender, and a few commonly used bits. The micro-USB charging cable was a good first impression. I can’t stand when I get a new tool or device that has a proprietary charging cable. The electric screwdriver itself is small and lightweight. It fits easily inside the drawer where I keep other tools I use commonly inside the house.
Good, but…
When first trying to use the electric screwdriver, I was unaware that there was an automatic driving feature. This feature is activated once pressure is applied to the bit shaft. This is my gripe with this electric screwdriver, however. It has this automatic drive feature that requires so little pressure to activate that it makes the power button useless. I did eventually grow to like the automatic drive feature, but I think a way to deactivate it would be very useful.
Convenience
This electric screwdriver is versatile and convenient. I used to have to go to the garage to grab my Milwaukee impact driver for every little task, however this saves me the trip. Within the past two weeks alone I was able to install an outlet in the office, hang a grow light for our Rosemary plant, install hinges on our coop door, hang a framed painting, fix the ham radio mount in my truck, etc. There really wasn’t a project I couldn’t use this on.
Favorite Feature
My favorite feature of the electric screwdriver is the 6 different power settings. A clutch in engaged when the power level selected is achieved, reducing the chance of overdriving fasteners. I found this feature to be especially great for installing outlet and light switch covers.
Despite my small problem with the automatic drive function described above this has been a very handy tool to have inside our house. This isn’t a product meant for professionals alone, but people who want to make tasks around the house a little easier.
