Native Natural Deodorant Review | Unsponsored & Unbiased

Since the internet is full of company-sponsored blogs, I’m here to give you a Native natural deodorant review which is not sponsored by the company. I’ve been using Native deodorant for about 6 months now, and I’ve noticed some pros and cons along the way. I’m going to spell out everything I like and dislike about the brand in this Native natural deodorant review. If you decide it’s worth a try, you can use our affiliate links for a quick ship via Amazon, where we may earn a small commission to help keep the blog running. But I promise, the company never contacted us to do this review, and we purchase these products with our own hard-earned cash. Thanks!

The Secret To A Positive Native Natural Deodorant Review

Before I tried Native deodorant, I ordered a delicious-smelling natural deodorant called Curie. I go into the difference between Native and Curie a little more below, but suffice it to say that I was not happy with Curie’s performance. Enter, Covid-19 pandemic of spring 2020. My husband and I found ourselves on mandatory lockdown in our homes. I’d heard that natural deodorant may require a “detox” phase before it works on your body, so I figured this was as good a time as any to go deodorant-free for a while.

Sure, I was smelly for a couple weeks. (Poor Ian.) But miraculously, when I tried natural deodorant after the “detox” phase, it actually worked. To an extent, anyway. In fact, I felt the need to write a Native natural deodorant review because I believe it works better than the Secret deodorant I was using before. I don’t smell myself at all throughout the day, and I no longer need to reapply. Here are the points I’ll summarize in this Native natural deodorant review.

  • Scent
  • Perspiration
  • Irritation
  • Effect on Clothing

Like our other Brutally Honest Reviews, the company did not contact us or pay us to do this review. Let’s get into it!

Native Deodorant Scents Are Amazing

Even if I didn’t feel like Native worked well when it comes to smell, I would’ve been tempted to keep trying. This is simply because of the yummy scents that Native offers. They have their “core” scents that they keep in rotation, as well as seasonal scents that come and go with the winds. I’m using the Native seasonal scents pack right now, which I absolutely love. (Jasmine & Cherry Blossom is my favorite.) However, I also ordered the Citrus & Herbal Musk, Cucumber & Mint, and Cotton & Lily (Sensitive) scents. I really do love them all. I read reviews that mentioned rashes and skin irritation, so I ordered the sensitive skin version just in case. However, I haven’t noticed any difference or skin color or irritation in my underarms since I started using Native, at all.

Although $10+ may seem like a lot for a stick of deodorant, I have to say, I’ve been using one stick for over 3 months now and it’s lasting me forever. Much longer than the regular Secret deodorant I was using before.

I’ve found that the texture of Native is very similar to any regular deodorant I’ve used in the past.

Perspiration Prevention Is Lackluster

One major complaint about natural deodorant is the claim that it doesn’t reduce underarm perspiration. Or In this Native natural deodorant review, I can attest to this. It’s a little difficult to compare perspiration reduction to “normal” deodorant, because some articles claim that using regular deodorant will encourage your body to sweat more since it works by clogging. Therefore, more and more product must be used to have the same effect. To keep things simple, I do not feel that this Native natural deodorant review can claim that it prevents perspiration. However, I do feel that I perspire less with Native, if that makes sense.

Does This Native Natural Deodorant Review Include Skin Irritation?

There are quite a few Native deodorant reviews on Amazon that complain about irritated skin. There are enough, in fact, that it scared me away from trying Native for months. Instead, I purchased Curie natural deodorant, since there seemed to be fewer complaints of skin irritation. I’ll go over my experience with Curie in a minute. But for this Native natural deodorant review, I have to say, I haven’t noticed any skin irritation at all. I’m not exactly sure what triggers it in some but not others, however, I can say that my skin has been very happy with Native deodorant.

Right: Shirt I wore first using regular Secret deodorant, and then Curie for a few weeks. Lots of residue. Left: Native deodorant, so far, has left little-to-no stain or residue on my clothing that I can see.

Does Native Deodorant Stain Clothes?

I haven’t noticed any stains on my clothes from Native deodorant. In fact, for the purpose of this Native natural deodorant review, I’d even go so far as to say that it stains my clothes less than the Secret deodorant I was using before. In our YouTube video, I’m going to show a side-by-side of my work shirts, and how each deodorant has stained it over time. I was worried about natural deodorant stains on my clothing before purchasing — and I will say that the Curie brand seemed to leave a nasty oil. However, Native deodorant hasn’t damaged any clothing, that I can see.

Native Vs. Curie Deodorant

Part of this Native natural deodorant review involves comparing various brands of aluminum-free deodorant to each other. Before trying Native, I purchased Curie deodorant in the scent “White Tea”. While I loved the scent, and tried really hard to love the product, I just couldn’t get on board. Here are a few ways the two products differ.

  1. Texture
  2. Odor resistance
  3. Effect on clothing

For one, Curie has a sticky, gummy texture that makes it difficult & messy to apply. Native, on the other hand, goes on feeling smooth & dry. In addition, I did not feel like Curie did a good job reducing underarm smell. To be fair — I only tried Native after going through the 30-day deodorant detox. So it’s hard to tell if it works now because of the Native deodorant, or because of the detox. Finally, I was really not a fan of the oily residue that Curie left on my clothes. It did not come out in the wash. I don’t mean to hate on Curie at all. Simply put, after trying both Native and Curie, I much prefer Native natural deodorant.

With the softer texture, Curie was difficult to apply evenly.

Unsponsored Native Natural Deodorant Review

In summary, this Native natural deodorant review isn’t meant to convince you to buy Native. Heck, some still debate whether or not natural deodorant is worth the hype. However, after going through the 30-day detox, I will never go back to “regular” deodorant containing aluminum again. If you’ve been thinking about trying natural deodorant, Native is the only brand I’ve tried that I recommend. Even just for the yummy scents they offer, alone. I won’t be switching back anytime soon!
