An Honest Ruggable Review After Months of Use
Like most, I was incredibly excited to receive my Ruggable rugs in the mail. I was tempted to get on YouTube right away, and post a Ruggable review about the pros & cons I’d noticed thus far. However, I decided to hold off for a bit in favor of a Ruggable review that takes into account the wear & tear of everyday doggie life. I’m glad I did, because since setting out Ruggable rugs 6 months ago, we’ve noticed a few more pros & cons emerge.
Ruggable Pros
- Machine Washable
- Interchangeable designs
- Easy to vacuum
- Doesn’t slide on hardwood
Ruggable Cons
- Curling on edges & corners
- Feels thin under foot
- Designs not proportional
- Pay to return
- Long drying time
- Shipping time “iffy”
Ruggable Review Pros
Let’s break down some of the “pros” of the washable rug brand in this Ruggable review.
Machine Washable Rugs
Without a doubt, the biggest “pro” of any Ruggable review is the fact that these rugs are completely machine washable. Yes, even our big 8×10’s. Ruggable rugs come in a two-part system. The lower part is almost like a giant bed of velcro, which holds the upper piece in place. The upper part is the softer, more “rug-like” piece, which also features the actual design. Within 1 week of setting down our new Ruggable rugs, Freya decided to puke on one. We were almost excited, since we got to try out the washable feature right away, without stain removers. No issue whatsoever — the rug came out sparkly clean, and there was no stress involved.
Interchangeable Designs
If you’re anything like me, you like to redecorate. Often. Redecorating with rugs can get pricey, fast. Although Ruggable rugs can be slightly pricey to start out from scratch, redecorating is much cheaper. You can switch out the top layer for newer, bolder, or more subtle designs, based on the season or your chapter in life. We haven’t done this yet, but the convenience is worth mentioning in any Ruggable review.
Easy to Vacuum
I know it’s easy to doubt that a machine-washable rug will vacuum well, but I promise nothing but honesty in this Ruggable review. We have no issues at all vacuuming our Ruggable rugs. The texture is much more “flat” than that of “piles”, and the under piece does a good job holding everything down. No complaints here.
Stays in Place on Hardwood Floors
Unless you have something heavy holding your traditional rug in place, you’ve likely noticed that they tend to scoot around. Especially if you have crazy mutts like ours running & landing at full speed. But this Ruggable review has nothing but positive notes in terms of stay ability. Ours don’t move our living room one bit.
Ruggable Review Cons
Now that we’ve gone over some of the awesome, let’s get down to the less-than-ideal factors in this Ruggable review.
Curling on Edges & Corners
My biggest complaint in this Ruggable review is the bad, bad curling on edges and corners of the rug. If it weren’t for the constant curling, I probably wouldn’t have written this review at all. The biggest trade-off in having a washable rug is regularly dealing with corner & edge curling. Now, part of it could be that our dogs love to play like crazy, and often slide their paws under the already-curling edges, only worsening the problem. However, since Ruggable advertises itself as a pet-friendly brand, I hope they will address this issue at some point. The way I see it, I need to regularly wash the rugs to prevent the curling from getting its worst. This means I have more on my to-do list, but I keep a cleaner home. Each customer will simply have to decide if the trade-off is worth it for their own lifestyle.
“Thin” Feeling Under Foot
When we first set up our washable rugs, the first thing I thought to put on a Ruggable review was the surprising feeling under foot. Ruggable rugs do not feel like traditional rugs in that they are much, much thinner. If you like a thick, cushy rug under foot, this might not be the system for you. For us, I think it just took some getting used to. Now I don’t think twice about the feeling. But if Ruggable would beef up the pad a bit for a more traditional feel, I think many more people would be willing to jump on board.
Designs Not Proportional
This one might be a bit nit-picky for a Ruggable review, but I had to say it. When selecting a Ruggable design, be aware that the design proportions do not change based on the dimensions. It appears as though Ruggable designs for a 5×7 rug, and simply “stretches” the graphic to whatever proportions to meet the size you choose. (Similar to dragging to resize text without holding down “shift”.) A huge deal? Not really. But most designers will notice that it doesn’t look totally “right”. Since they’re asking $400/rug for an 8×10, I think a job best-done would be for the company to pay a little extra to have the design proportionately altered for 2-3 more sizes. Again, though, total Ruggable review nit-pick, and not all that important.
Pay to Return
This part of the Ruggable review is a little more of an issue from a customer service standpoint. Ruggable will make you pay for samples, and will make you pay to return a rug. This wasn’t an issue for us, because I didn’t end up wanting to return the rug. But we made an $800 investment in two 8×10’s, so I was pretty stressed about the prospect that one or both might not work out. Ruggable, if you’re reading this Ruggable review, maybe consider offering customers a credit towards buying a rug if they order samples? That way, perhaps there wouldn’t be so many angry customer reviews on their more hidden social media & feedback sites. Especially since every color will look different to every viewer, since computer screens all display them differently. Best to have at least either some sort of sample ordering incentive or free return for store credit.

Long Drying Time
I can only speak for 8×10’s in this Ruggable review, which granted, are pretty big rugs. And those suckers take a long time to dry. Like, pretty much all day in the dryer. If you have the space & setup, I know others like to hang their rug out to dry. But otherwise, plan on blocking out your dryer for a day per rug that you plan to wash.
Shipping Time “Iffy”
Another minor qualm here. Ruggable doesn’t really openly state how long the shipping can take before ordering. After I ordered our rugs, I received a confirmation email stating that the rugs should arrive within 5 weeks. Silly me had figured it might take 5-7 business days, per usual. Since I’d ordered in hopes to redecorate before a dinner party, I emailed for other options, and they responded in 3 days that I could pay to expedite the shipping. I opted out, and figured I probably should’ve just researched deeper into the ship time before ordering. But for an honest Ruggable review, I think it would be in the company’s best interest to state the shipping policies on checkout, like most online ordering. It would save customers a lot of disappointment in the future. (The good news is that my rugs arrived in about 1.5 weeks anyway, so I was a happy girl!)
Is Ruggable Worth It?
This might come as a surprise, since I haven’t withheld any criticism in this Ruggable review. However, after all is said and done, we’re so glad we purchased these rugs, and we definitely plan on keeping them. In fact, I’m kind of grossed out by the idea of non-washable rugs entirely, now. I can’t believe I went this long in life without them. Every rug we buy from here on out will be a washable Ruggable rug, or a similar system from another washable rug brand. The idea of paying $250 (or more) every few years for a rug that isn’t ever washed during that time frame is honestly kind of disgusting to me now. Especially having dogs. So when all is said and done, thank you, Ruggable, for exposing us to this new, cleaner, much better alternative!
