We teamed up with Dremel to tackle the soap scum and mineral buildup in our bathroom shower. It resulted in the best shower soap scum hack we’ve seen. Make sure to check out our video of the tool in action on YouTube. Thank you for sending us the Versa tool, Dremel! This post contains affiliate links which may lead to a commission if purchased. Simple Shower Soap Scum Hack
I wish I’d known about this shower soap scum hack for cleaning sooner. We were really torn whether to choose dark or light tile in our bathroom. There are pros and cons to both dark and light tile, but we ultimately decided to go dark. Ian begged me to let him use black shower tile in our walk-in shower, and I have to say, I do love how it turned out. However, the hard water and soap scum definitely shows up more easily on dark shower tile. Hands & knees scrubbing worked well for the first month or two. But eventually we definitely let the dream of a clean black shower subside.
Dremel was kind enough to send us some of their newer innovations to try out, and I’m pretty stoked about their Versa cleaning tool. As mentioned above, Dremel was kind enough to send us this tool to try out free of charge, but we would not be writing about it if we didn’t really love it. It’s definitely the best shower soap scum hack that I’ve come across thus far.
Dremel Versa In Action
Here is how the tool worked when we used it as a shower soap scum hack on our own bathroom. I was honestly skeptical that it would work, but within seconds of testing it out on the corner of the shower, I was pleasantly surprised. We used this tool to scrub the soap scum off of the shower tile and grout. I also added some of this Clorox Cleaning Solution for extra cleaning power. Lime-A-Way was the only thing that removed the mineral buildup, though. I’m always on the hunt for paraben/sulfate free & environmentally friendly cleaning product alternatives, so leave your best suggestions below!
Of course, an effective shower soap scum hack is necessary on surfaces other than tile, as well. The Dremel Versa cleaning tool has various heads that can be used safely on different surfaces. This is the attachment we used on the glass, and it worked like a charm. Again, I know it’s easy to be skeptical of product endorsements, so I’m showing you the proof in this video and with these photos. (And like I said before, we don’t share products we don’t really like. Believe me. It happens.)
Preventing Shower Soap Scum & Mineral Buildup
Now, when it comes to a preventative shower soap scum hack, we’re trying some fresh new technology by SpotLess Materials. This part isn’t sponsored — we just ordered the product ourselves. SpotLess uses science to completely repel water from touching the surface of whatever it’s applied to. The product’s founder was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30. This new coating is supposed to repel water and grime better than anything that’s ever been on the market, so we’re going to test it out over the next few months and report back! If it works as well as the studies say it does, hopefully our shower scum soap hack routine will be reduced even further.
We’ll update you guys in a few months with how well the SpotLess Materials is preventing mineral and soap scum buildup. But in the meantime, we’re loving the Dremel Versa for an universal shower soap scum hack!
